What better way to spend 8 hours than out on the ocean pitting your wits against a fish! "Downunder" is a purpose built wide body Catamaran to provide you with the smoothest and safest ride, and the biggest amount of deck space to stake your claim on a piece of ocean. With a maximum of 12 passengers, a proper flushing toilet, seats all round and a solid roof over the entire deck for shade you are sure to enjoy your day. Dont forget your hat and sunnies and your camera too!

Downunder is a Bruce Harris built wide body Shark cat, 9.85m long and 4.4m wide with a gross tonnage of 11t and powered by twin Fiat 250kW inboard diesel engines. She is registered in 2C survey and carries all the safety equipment required by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) including a 16 man coastal liferaft.  All the crew on Downunder are fully licenced by AMSA  (including our deckies) and are trained and regularly drilled in first aid, firefighting and survival at sea so you can be assured that in the rare event of unforseen circumstances occurring you are in the best hands possible.

We know that fishing is a hungry/ thirsty sport so we have equipped Downunder with a good supply of tea, coffee, bikkies softdrink and bottled water. For a small extra charge you can also purchase snacks or a selection of sweet treats. Alternatively feel free to bring your own food and drinks (NO GLASS please). As Downunder is not licenced we are unable to sell alcohol but you are welcome to BYO (sensible quantities please and NO GLASS). All we ask is you bring your supplies in an esky just big enough to hold them so we keep the deck space clear for fishing.

Our 8 hour trips head out from the marina and cruise down the Tweed River to its mouth at the Coral Sea. Once across the Tweed Bar we head for one of our favourite spots to try our luck. On the way we often put out trolling lines, with any fish caught by this method shared amongst the passengers and crew. The 8 hour trip generally gets out as far as the 20-25nm mark (approx. 40km),this is where the bigger fish are likely to be hiding! During the trip we will fish in a couple of different locations, depending on the weather, time of year and where the fish are biting.

You can keep any fish you catch (in accordance with species bag limits and restrictions) or our deckie will be happy to help you release your quarry to fight another day. If in the crews opinion the fish would not survive being released it will be kept. We will ice down, gill and gut your fish and bag it ready for you to take home. By law we are not permitted to fillet fish while at sea and do not have time once we dock back at the marina.

Our standard departure time for the 8 hour trip is 0600 (6am) NSW time in winter and 0700 (7am)  NSW time in  summer (please be aware of daylight saving during the summer if you are coming from QLD). We will confirm with you the day before your charter what time we are leaving. We ask you to be at the Tweed Marina a minimum of 15min before your trip departs so we can get the housekeeping and paperwork out of the way and give you a full 8 hours on the water.
